You climb up onto the stage and push aside the curtain. Behind the curtain is dark, but you step back there anyway. Even when you can see nothing else, you can see her. There in the darkness, a pale skinned woman stands alone.
"You surprised me," Death says.
"I'm sorry," you say, not sure that you're really sorry or that she was really surprised.
"You're not supposed to surprise me," she says, "you've got to actually seek out my siblings and I if you want to talk."
"But I came here," you say, "didn't I?"
"You came here," she says, "but you didn't come to me. I'll take you for now, but you're safe while you're here, so I hope you come see me again." With that, Death fades into the darkness and your heart stops beating.
