With no other way to go on, you descend down into the gorge. The walls are soft earth, but you can carry yourself down on stone outcroppings and roots. You've gone down perhaps fifty feet with the bottom still out of sight when a rock gives way beneath your foot. You start to fall, and reach out for anything you might grip, finding your only purchase in crumbling dirt. You fall, and you continue to fall for several minutes, but this gorge does have a bottom, and you eventually hit it.
