You turn right, strolling boldly out of detention. You walk with a new swagger, feeling unstoppable and rebelious. Then you bump into the principal. He's tall and wide and imposing; a substitute father-figure, despite your differences. You looks down on you with blatant disapproval as you scamper away from the his mild punishment. "You know what?" he says, "I'm not even mad at you anymore."

"Really?" you mutter in disbelief.

"No, I'm not," he says, "I'm just so disappointed."

You lower your eyes to the floor; you can't look him in the eye. You awake with that disappointment still gripping your emotions.
