You head off on your own, being the intrepid adventurer you are. Intrepid adventurer or not, however, one would have to assume you're not familiar with horror movie tropes. Your friends hear the stairs creak as you ascend, and they hear door open and close as you pass through, but they never hear another sound from you after you disappear into the darkness of this haunted house alone. Nobody can say exactly what happened to you, only that you weren't seen again -- at least in one piece.
