Being the science officer on the ship, it falls on you to explain the mysterious energy spikes federate systems have been picking up on scanners. Given that this quadrant is supposedly uninhabited and uninhabitable, locating the source of these spikes is your team's priority.
"So what is this energy spike coming from?" asks one member of the crew.
"We have no idea," you reply, "but whatever it is must be massive."
As you say your final words, there is a blip of energy that leaves everybody's hair standing on end. You don't need the sensors to know it for what it is. From the viewing port, you catch a somewhat underwhelming burst of light, but it's not the light that impresses you. The light is only a dull surface of space which is being distorted into some new grisly form. Where that dim light had been, a monster has formed. It is all teeth and eyes, and radially symmetrical like some Lovecraftian horror. With a single swipe of a tentacle that must be miles long, it snatches your whole ship. No words are said, but as the creature consumes you and your vessel whole, everybody onboard knows the source of that mysterious energy.
