They both have inky quills.

You proudly announce your answer to the bird. The bird, seemingly confused, cocks his head sideways a little at the sound. "I said, they both have inky quills," you tell him again. "Like the quills you write with, they have ink, but also like your feathers, which are black like ink. Get it?" The raven cocks his head in the other direction. It takes you a moment, but you finally realize what's happened. "Oh," you say aloud in your moment of clarity, "I've gone bonkers and I'm talking to a bird." You sit down and wait for this dream to end, confident that it was far too much for your feeble mind to handle.

That was a clever answer, though.
